whats that?
ANIga (v0.50) is a picture gallery wordpress plugin. Its integrated in the WP posts system and uses the WP comments for pictures. This is an early release of this plugin. Some things might not work properly, some features are still missing. USE AT OWN RISK! I appreciate any feedback!

habe einen fehler gefunden, der gefixt werden sollte…
falls man bei der wordpress installation ein anderes datenbank präfix als wp_ beutzt gibt es einen datenbankfehler… falls wp_comments zb 00_comments heißt kommt der besagt datenbankfehler… kan man aber leicht händisch umschreiben falls nochjemand diesen fehler hat wie ich.. in der funktions.php von aniga einfach alle wp_comments mit zb 00_comments ersetzen! vielleicht bugfixt du das ja mal!
ansonsten ein sehr gutes plugin! bin shcon lange auf der suche nach soetwas, da ich genau diese funktionen benötige! und vorallem schön automatisch funktioniert!

das habe ich wohl übersehen.. Habs schnell behoben und eine neue Version draus gemacht. zum update einfach alle dateien im plugins folder überschreiben und das plugin nochmal aktivieren.

For some reason the tab at the top of the dashboard no longer is visable, i have your plugin activated, and it was showing up earlier, but suddenly its not there. Any ideas?

are you logged in as an admin? if the plugin is working, but you dont see the tab, that might be the reason.
You need admin rights for this plugin.. maybe I will add an option to override this in the next release.
I downloaded ANIga 0.18, and installed it succesfully, but it keeps telling me that it is version 0.17 :) Can’t wait setting up first gallery…

Joonas: just download the plugin again and reactivate it. If it is still showing your old version you need to delete your WP cache.
aRAY: I am running php 4.4.1 on apache with mysql 4.0.23 on a Linux system. I also tried it on a local WinXP system with php 5.1.1 and mysql 5.0.18. I dont use any cgi in this plugin.
i have tested on the localhost, based on IIS5.1+PHP4.4.2+Mysql4.0.23
I am sorry, but i dont know why this error raises up.. I think it is your installation, but i dont know IIS and have no way to test this plugin on an IIS system.

Would it be hard to add the ability to add a caption to each photo and have it display above or below the image?
This plugin looks great, except I can’t seem to create a category and album. I’m on Win2003+IIS 6.0+MySQL5.0.19+PHP5.1.4. What happens is this: I make my first category - everything appears to work, it says Category created, but when I go to create my first album there isn’t a category in the drop down list. I can even see the category pic (when I browse to the folder I uploaded when I created the category. I checked the permissions (hoping I did that right), what else should I be looking at?
I think the plugin might not be installed correctly. try to re-activate it and check if there are three new tables in your database and a new WP page called “photography”
Other things I’d like to see?
- role based permissions so I can have choose who gets to see certain galleries
- The ability to set more than one folder as the upload folder. My server only allows one person to use a folder, so when I am trying to use your plugin on a site with multiple authors, it makes it hard
- And the caption per image I mentioned above :)

ich beabsichtige, dieses plugin einzusetzen, bin mir aber noch nicht sicher, weil ich noch nicht ganz verstanden habe, wie es arbeitet. legt es für jeden einzelnen eintrag eine POST oder eine eigene PAGE an oder ist es was ganz anderes?
Ich bin nämlich auf der Suche nach genau diesem plugin, falls es das macht. (Also jedes foto ein eigener post in wp, jede kategorie auch eine kategorie in wp.)

sorry, but this plugin is based on WP pages, so if you disable this, no more thumbnails and pictures can be displayed..
But you can hide the categories and albums if you set wp_list_pages(’title_li=<h2>Pages</h2>&depth=1′) in your sidebar template.

ich hab nochmal drüber nachgedacht…. eigentlich suche ich nur ein plugin, was mir aus den bilder in einer zip pro bild einen _post_ macht…
hast du vielleicht noch die zwischenschritte aus deinem versuch? wenn man da den ganzen anderen kram rausnimmt, hätte ich ja eigentlich schon, was ich suche.
aber was meinst du mit “in die knie gehen”? im endeffekt wären das doch nur ein haufen post, die halt ein imagetag enthalten - was für probleme könnte wp damit haben?
When I try to insert a picture (using either the “picture already uploaded” or the “upload a zip file” method), I get an error that displays the directory of the files and says “.. not allowed !!”. I looked at the code and it looks like the “if” statement that causes this error is when the file can’t be automatically resized for whatever reason; however, I turned off the “auto resize” option in the ANIga options tab, and it still produces that error. Anything else that could be causing it? I’ve also checked the CHMOD’ing and directory paths on everything.
78: leider hab ich das nicht mehr.. Bei mir gab es das problem, dass WP recht langsam geworden ist, weil es bei jedem seitenaufbau erst mal die ganzen pages rausfiltern muss. besonders schlimm war es, mit der page-list function auf der sidebar, wenn ich dabei die picture pages rausgefiltert habe.
Aber das muss ja nix heißen, vielleicht lags auch an was anderem.. ich würds mal probieren..
Jordan: it looks like you are trying to insert a non-jpg picture. only jpg pictures are supported so far, other filetypes will be possible soon..

Ich habe irrtümlicherweise den photography ordner gelöscht, und irgendwie ist aniga jetzt durcheinander, und ich kann mir keine galleries mehr anzeigen lassen, da ja die “referenz” darauf fehlt. wie bring ich aniga wieder in den “auslieferungszustand”? hab leider keinen direkten datenbankzugriff. gibts irgendwo einen schalter, damit die ganze install-prozedur nochmal durchläuft? oder welche tables müsste ich dafür “droppen”? wär schade, wenns nimmer läuft, weil ich mochte es gern. was mir einzig abgeht, ist eine kombination aus “versteckten” oder passwortgeschützten bereichen, damit ich zb urlaubsbilder nicht zu offensichtlich so nebenbei auf eine private, aber eher technisch gehaltene seite stellen kann.

wenn du nichts in der datenbank gelöscht hast, ist es am einfachsten, du machst den ordner wieder neu (inkl. 00-gfx ordner und chmod777) und löscht danach die bestehenden alben und categories. Danach müsstest es wieder funktionieren, aber du musst natürlich die alben und Bilder neu machen..
Ansonsten musst du die tables wp_anigal_picture, wp_anigal_album und wp_anigal_categories droppen. Außerdem den Eintrag “anigal_base-id” im wp_options table. Danach das plugin neu installieren und aktivieren.
Aber eigentlich müsste die erste Variante auch funktionieren.

I appear to create everything OK-CATEGORY,ALBUM,PHOTOGRAPHY page. I also see the images in my photo folder but I do not get any images showing up on the Wordpress pages created??

you have to use the template files in the package and copy them to your theme folder. either adjust them to your own layout or switch to the default theme..

First of all thank you for your wonderfull work, you have created a neat plug-in. I am trying it here: news.mactep.name, thouhgh one thing is missing is a possibility to add description to the photo. Perhaps, I have missed it since I have added photos to the gallery by uploading them to the server.
Is there a way to ad a name (and/or description) to each photo and then display those alonside with the name of the Album?

Two quick questions. I have the same problem Dave had. The Aniga Button disappeared from the Dashboerd. It was there before I installed Role and after I successfully installed the latter, Aniga was not showing anymore. I’m the only user for now and I have all the admin rights. I iuninstalled and reinstalled all plugins in different manners but Aniga won’t show up any more. :oops:
Second question. My internet provider provides very good database, mysql, php and event coffee if I want too, but it won’t let me CHMOD higher than 700. Do you reckon that would prevent me from using your plugin ? It would be a bummer since it seems to exactly what I need.
I’m testing the whole thing on zer0kelvin.free.fr/frontonnais/ for the moment.

Lordfavor: hm.. that might be a problem with your htaccess file.. maybe try to update your permalink structure. But the generated link is correct?
MajusCOOL: If you are using Role Manager, you have to create the Role ‘photography’ and adjust the permissions.
I dont know, if it is working with a lesser permission than 777. you can try this, by changing lines 34 and 35 in zip.php/zip.phpx and lines 1098 and 1099 in aniga_gallery.php to your permission level..
The script needs permission to create directories and files..

I installed your plug-in and it worked great. i deactivated the plug-in and deleted my old test photo pages and subpages. When i tried to re-activate the plug-in, the ANIga options settings would not let me change the “ANIga gallery name:
page title of gallery index page:” I will enter a name and update it, but everytime i update it, it does not show in the box. It does not show up on my live site even though the ANIga backend shows all my gallery categories, album, and pictures. Please help! Thanks
hi rich.. make a new page for your gallery (manually; page template gallery-index.php) and remember the WP Id of this page.
now you have to insert this id on the options page below the gallery name. After that you have to adjust the parent relationships with the category pages and this new gallery index page on the normal WP manage page screen.
Now you should be alright again and be able to change the name on the options page.
Remember to delete gallery pages only from the gallery managment screen, otherwise you will mess the hole thing up..

thanks for the quick reply. so i got my gallery page name on the options page to work properly as well as my album pages but my main gallery page doesn’t show the different albums that i created. how do i change the page template to gallery-index.php manually. the only options i receive in the dropdown menu for page template are “default” and “links.” is there a different way besides the dropdown?
oh hey, i figured it out. i used my default theme to correct the problem with choosing the template and switched back to my new theme. thanks

Just to let you and the others know that in order to make the ANIga button reappear in the WP Backend, one shall send me a lot of money :cool: Seriously, the ANIga must be deactivated in the plugins area and then, you have to manually go and delete the three ANIga SQL tables and all ANIga entries in the wp_options table.

Other than having to change permissions (CHMOD) on all the folder and the cumbersome nature of unzipping via ssh - Installation has been a breeze. And, compared all all the other “image” plugins for WP, yours is by far the simpliest for all the powerful features. Two errors concern me:
The first is when uploading my zipped images to the folder as per “Insert Pictures” menu. After trying all the other “unzipping” methods listed in the “Options” menu, I reverted back to what ANIga suggests which is the ” m_zip library for .php files” I still get the errors below: (BTW, the images seem to have been successfully uploaded and processed though)

One problem that I resolved was messed up paths due to the incorrect addition of “00-gfx” within “http url to picture gallery” option in the “Options” tab, e.g. http://saugertiesbedandbreakfast.com/gallery/00-gfx/. That wrong url was written to the database (wp_anigal_picture) when I created the new categories and allbums. So I had to go in the database and remove the trailing “00-gfx/”.

[…] I finally found a plugin i liked for Wordpress and while its not perfect, it is a great one, the best i have seen to date. Since wordpress was built for writing and not photo displaying, the plugin is a hack and it uses its own db table to keep track of where the photos are and when to display them (i think, i need to play with it a bit more). It uses the existing Pages design to display the pics in a post type manner while maintaining the gallery feel. The website i found it at is http://www.animalbeach.net/aniga/ and i love the layout. You can view my new galleries and its contents here. As you can see i don’t have too much in it yet but from the looks of it, you can organize it into catagories, then albums. When you get into the actual album you can view by thumbnails or by slideshow. The slideshow is pretty slick but it uses a Microsoft protocol so when used in other browsers that emulate it, the slideshow can be a little choppy, like i said, the plugin isnt perfect. All in all the plugin was pretty easy to use with the default theme, but when adapting it to the current theme took a little time. I think it turned out nice with some modifications i made. I also installed the FlickrRSS plugin which allows me to preview the first 1 to 5 images in my album over at Flickr on my site. The overall modifications are not blaringly noticable but does add some flavor that i have been meaning to do for a while. […]

i have a strange problem with your awesome plugin…everything seems to be working fine, admin working, ive got the pages and no errors or anything. the problem ist, that there are no photos shown on the pages. there is just the heading and thats it. although i uploaded some pics and they they show up on the admin screen and there are thumbs and normals created in the folder. do you have an idea what the problem could be?

David Rad\: actually, the mysql tables should be created on activation.. there should be 3 new ones.. if there are no new tables in your db, you can try to create them manually according to the anigal_install () function in aniga_gallery.php
Well I am also not very happy with the zip upload function.. But i dont have so many different testing enviroments.. so actually i have no idea whats this about.. sorry - but if you find out more please let me know!

Exter: now thats a strange one! If there are other plugins working for you, i dont know whats up. Maybe the file was corrupted on upload..
boy ms: yes, that should be the problem. right now I have no support for safe mode on and file resize.. you should disable the automatic thumbnail creation option and provide the thumbs manually..

i have the same problem as george, mike, jules, & danny. i cannot seem to get around the “not a valid directory please check your directory structure!” error message. i’ve checked my absolute path against what my host says my absolute path should be, and it’s correct. i have included the / as required. it get the error whether i ftp the files in or move them in via zip.

this error only occurs if your absolute path is not correct. to get your absolute path make a php file (called test.php or whatever) with this content
and upload this in your gallery folder (eg. ../blog/gallery/ )
Point your browser to this file. Your absolute path is what’s printed, except the filename (test.php).
For example, if you receive:
your absolute path would be
If you receive a path with “\” change them to “/”. And dont forget the last “/”

my suggestions for improvement: option for lightbox support or not and easy way of adding pics from the galleries in actual post on the blog-mainpage with link to either the album, picture, or lightbox. i mean a little button on top of the edit area, where u can choose ur album/pic with preview and so on…

ich probiere das plugin gerade aus (ungefähr das 10. gallery plugin für wordpress das ich teste)
ich habe das gleiche problem wie bei mygallery:
wenn ich das resizen ausschalte, werden alle bilder zum album hinzugefügt aber ich habe keine thumbnails
wenn ich das resize anschalte, werden ungefär ein drittel der bilder angelegt und viele davon haben auch kein thumbnail
ich bekomme beim generieren keinerlei rückmeldung wie weit das hinzufügen schon fortgeschritten ist, was mache ich falsch?
safe mode ist an, sollte aber keine probleme machen, da ich ja nicht aus archiven hinzufügen will.
das ganze passiert mir unabhängig auf 2 web-spaces (strato und rhs-it)

@leifg: ich hab zwar nicht soo die ahnung, aber könnte daran liegen, dass deine spaces nur ne begrenzte zeit haben um scripte auszuführen. da gibts irgend ne variable für in der php.ini glaube ich. strato kannste sowieso vergessen…wieviele bilder willst du denn resizen? vielleicht sinds ja zuviele auf einmal. versuch doch mal in kleineren häppchen. aber keine ahnung, kann auch sein, dass ich grade mist erzähle.
@naabster: just to let u know: i modified the “IImage Browser”-plugin by malyfred in order to kind of interact with ur gallery and now I can insert pics from the gallery into posts very very easily either as thumbs or normals and with lightbox support. and the plugin has got very very much potential to achieve even more in conjuction with your gallery. if you want to, i can send u my modified version, and u cld ask the author if you can use it in your plugin. just a suggestion ;)
@anybody who is interested: just drop me a mail (fry at fryshaus dot de)and i can send u the modified files.
ps: you will not find the gallery in my page yet, as im currently working on my all new weblog, where i am going to use it.

I just installed this plugin and I couldnt get it to work. Whenever I tried to create a category it said that the category was created but the database was empty.
I looked in the code and I think I found the problem. Since you are using auto increment in both category and album, I dont understand why you have those columns in the INSERT statement so I removed them in both anigal_sublevel_category() and anigal_sublevel_album() and now it works. Well, works better since I cant add any pictures but I get to that later.
BTW, I use IIS and php 5.1.1 and mysql 5.0

organ: you have to turn off safemode in your php.ini - if your webserver is hosted, you should ask your hoster.
leifg: Ich denke fry hat recht, die scripte laufen wohl zu lange (zu viele bilder, bzw. zu große dateien zum verkleinern). aber mit einzelnen häppchen sollte es besser funktionieren.

Hi, Thanks for sharing this plugin! It looks to be exactly what I need. However, I am having a problem linking to my photo galleries. I have made the corresponding albums and categories, and have uploaded photos by http://ftp. All folders are chmodded to 777. When I try to insert pictures using the “pictures already uploaded by ftp” option, I receive the following error:
error: ‘http://www.45sur.com/(my path here)’ is not a valid directory
please check your directory structure!
I have checked and rechecked the structure! Everything is spelled correctly, modded correctly and the path should go right to the corresponding gallery.
Any thoughts or suggestions?

BTW, still having a small problem but will try to figure it out. In the Category directory, one of my thumbs appears on the left (as I want it), but the next one appears on the right. I want them all alligned on the left. I’ll study the situation a bit more, but if you’ve got a suggestion I’ll take it ;)
Doug: i think your absolute path is wrong. try it without “00-gfx”, eg. “/home/graphosp/public_html/xplorer_weblog/gallery/”
David: you can adjust this in your template files or in your gallery-css file, its more a layout thing..

Thanks naabster, I figured it out and have everything working. I left a message at the WP forum, but I’ll write here as well that I think it would be great if you could add a function to name and describe each individual photo and have this information popup on hover over image. That would be a highly useful addition ;)
Marne - make sure you put the gallery-template and css files in the folder of the theme you are actually using (ie, not the default theme folder if you aren’t using the default theme). They should appear after you do that, but you may have to modify a couple of files to adjust the look of the gallery to your page. I made changes to the gallery-style.css and the gallery-picture.php files to adjust the allignment, padding, etc of thumbs and pictures to achieve what I wanted.
David- The gallery-template and css file were already in my theme folder.

I keep getting this error on the main page.

Also, whenever I go to the options page I get a list of errors. Any ideas on what I screwed up?

trying to add your picture gallery to my pages, install seemed fine, created the gallery and album no problem, when i go to insert pictures it tells me my file path is invalid… i check and recheck the path is correct i can even browse to the path in IE.. just for the heck of it i chmoded all the picture gallery folders to 777 incase that was an issue still saying invalide file structure.. what gives?
jmclemens: I had a similar problem and resolved it by removing the plugin from the server and then re-installing it. After that, it worked fine.

das Gallery Tool ist erstklassig genau was ich gesucht hab. Erstmal großes Lob. Und jetzt natürlich meine Fragen. Das Problem ist das er ich gerne in der Navigation die Untermenüpunkte ausschalten würde. Es soll einfach nur z.B. “Gallery” dastehen und nicht noch die Untermenüpunkte.
Wäre super wenn du mir am besten per eMail kurz mitteilen könntest wo ich das am besten ausschalten kann. Navigieren können die Personen ja dann wenn Sie auf den Hauptmenüpunkt klicken.
Zweistens noch einen Wunsch, evtl. hast du den schön öfter gehört: Wäre super wenn in Zukunft auch die Möglichkeit wäre das man einzelne Bilder hochladen kann oder Bulk-Upload das man z.b. 10 Bilder auswählen kann. Da leider nicht jeder so fit ist diese zu zippen und hochzuladen. Hintergrund möchte der Familie die auf der Welt versträut ist die Möglichkeit geben Bilder hochzuladen und ich FTP sollen die am besten nicht bekommen da die sonst was zerstören und ich glaube von denen würde nicht jeder schaffen seine Bilder zu zippen.
Das wars, ansonsten natürlich perfekt gemacht.
aaah. und noch was, was toll wäre wenn man auch noch zu jedem Bild einen Text schreiben könnte was das Bild zeigt.

I am trying to install your plugin version 0.25 on my computer. It is activated, and I am trying to create a categorie. Although it says it has created it, it seems to have failed, because I cannot choose a category when I want to create an album.
I am using wordpress 2.0.3, apache 2.0.55, php 5.1.1 and mysql 5.0.16

I’ve got it to work. Someone mentioned that the insert-script in aniga_gallery.php was the problem. I fixed that. One thing, I couldn’t find this in your description, and don’t know if it’s obvious :???: To get your pages to show your albums and thumbs you have to edit your page and point it to the appropriate template.
I’ve updated the gallery-xxx.php pages to my theme, but only the thumbs en photo-pages look ok. The index and categorie, get aligned below my left oriented mainmenu. I am not sure how to fix this, because I am fairly new to php. :cry:
Besides that your plugin is very good. It fits better into my theme than any other I have tried untill now. :cool:

Brandon: you changed your gallery name to your gallery folder. That wont work! You need either change your gallery folder or your name.
